Carbon Steel Pipe Pressure Rating Chart

Date:2026-06-05View:51Tags:carbon steel pipe, pipe pressure rating, pipe pressure rating chart

The carbon steel pipe pressure rating table is an important reference tool for determining the maximum working pressure that steel pipes can withstand under specific temperature, size, and wall thickness conditions. In the ASME B31.3 process piping standard, the pressure rating of steel pipes depends on their design pressure, pipe outer diameter, allowable stress, weld quality factor, and wall thickness correlation coefficient. Therefore, the pressure rating of the same pipe may vary significantly under different operating conditions.

What should be considered when calculating pressure ratings?

1. Welded steel pipes require consideration of weld efficiency coefficient.

The data in this table is based on seamless steel pipes. For ERW welded steel pipes, the weld efficiency coefficient (typically around 85%) should be considered. Therefore, the actual allowable pressure will be lower than that of seamless steel pipes.

2. Corrosion allowances must be considered.

In actual engineering, allowances need to be made for internal corrosion, external corrosion, and wear. Otherwise, the wall thickness will decrease after long-term operation, reducing pressure resistance.

3. Risk of high-temperature graphitization.

When carbon steel is exposed to temperatures above 427°C for extended periods, carbides may transform into graphite, leading to a decline in material properties.

Therefore, high-temperature systems typically consider using ASTM A335 alloy steel pipes or Cr-Mo Alloy Steel Pipes instead of ordinary carbon steel pipes.
