ASTM A106 pipe

Date:2025-07-16View:19Tags:astm a106 pipe , carbon seamless steel pipe

ASTM A106 is a standard for seamless carbon steel pipes formulated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and is widely used for conveying high-temperature services (such as oil refining, chemical industry, boilers and petrochemical plants). The following provides a detailed introduction from aspects such as the standard range, material classification, chemical composition and mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, inspection and testing requirements, marking and packaging.

Standard Overview of ASTM A106 pipe

The standard name of ASTM A106 pipe is ASTM A106/A106M. It is a seamless carbon steel pipe suitable for transporting high-temperature steam and fluids. Its nominal diameter (NPS) is: ½ "- 48", and the wall thickness is in accordance with ASME B36.10M (Schedule 10-160, XXH) standard. It can mainly be classified into three grades: Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C, which can respectively meet the strength and toughness requirements under different pressures and temperatures.

Characteristics of ASTM A106 pipe

Reliable high-temperature performance: Grade B maintains excellent yield strength and tensile strength below 400 ℃. Grade C can withstand extreme high-temperature environments such as supercritical power stations.

Multiple specifications and schedules can be customized: It supports Schedule 40, 80, 160 and XXH ultra-thick-walled series. It can be cut to a fixed length according to customer requirements (common lengths: 6 m, 12 m).

Strict inspection to ensure quality: Spectral chemical composition analysis for each furnace; Full control over tensile, bending and non-destructive testing (hydrostatic, radiographic or eddy current testing).

Cost and processing advantages: Compared with alloy pipes, carbon steel materials have a lower cost. Excellent welding performance makes on-site installation more convenient. Standardized production and short delivery cycle.

Common application fields

Petrochemical industry: Usually installed in high-temperature steam and hot oil circulation pipelines.
Electric power generation: It is often applied to boiler feed water, superheater and reheater pipelines.
Heating pipelines: Mainly used as the main lines of the thermal power network.
Mechanical manufacturing: Used for high-temperature heat exchange shell-side tubes, thermal equipment support structures, etc.

ASTM A106 pipe, with its mature production process and excellent high-temperature performance, continuously leads the seamless carbon steel pipe market.
