Marine Grade Steel is a type of structural alloy steel which is standardized by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for specific use in the ship building industry.ABS steels are produced as Ordinary-Strength and two levels of Higher-Strength specifications. Ordinary-Strength ABS steel is produced in various grades including, ABS Grades A, B, D and E. Higher-Strength ABS Steel is produced in six grades of two different strengths including ABS Grades AH32, DH32, EH32, AH36, DH36 and EH36.

Off-Shore Grade Steel is a type of structural alloy steel which is standardized by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for specific use in the welded construction of marine and offshore structures. API grades are produced in both the Normalized condition as API 2H-50 and Thermo-Mechanical Controlled Process (TMCP) as API 2W-50.

ASTM A131 A&B / ABS A&B
A structural grade of steel plate utilized almost exclusively in the shipbuilding industry. This grade is defined as Ordinary Strength with specified minimum yield of 34 KSI. Applications include barges, marine equipment, and ship construction. These grades are also certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile:58 to 71 ksi
Yield:34 ksi min
Elongation:19% min in 8” 22% min in 2”

ASTM A131 / ABS AH36 / ABS DH36 / ABS EH36
A structural grade of steel plate utilized almost exclusively in the shipbuilding and offshore industries. This grade is defined as Higher Strength with specified minimum yield of 51 KSI. These products are offered in various conditions; AH36 in the control-rolled condition, DH36 in both the control-rolled and normalized condition, EH36 in the normalized condition. These grades are also certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile:70 to 90 ksi
Yield:51 ksi min
Elongation:17 min in 8” 20 min in 2”
Charpy Requirements (LCVN):

AH36:25 ft/lbs @ 32°F
DH36:25 ft/lbs @ -4°F

EH36:25 ft/lbs @ -40°F

API 2H Grade 50
An intermediate-strength, normalized, structural steel plate utilized in the welded construction of offshore structures. This grade is regulated by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Because of its specific restrictions, API has also been adapted in many other applications such as Base rings and Cylinders for Crane production, Piling for severe application on Bridge Construction and for “Fracture Critical” applications in areas where resistance to vibration and torque are necessary.

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile:70 to 90 ksi
Yield:50 ksi min
Charpy Requirements:TCVN 30 ft/lbs average/25 ft/lbs min @ – 40° Fahrenheit

Supplements:
S.1Ultrasonic Testing per SA578 level II 100% scan
S.3Frequency “P” per plate testing in accordance with A20 requirements
S.4Through Thickness Tensile Testing “Z” direction per A770, 30% min. reduction of area.
S.5Controlled sulpher to 0.006% max with inclusion shape control
S.12Drop Weight Testing

ASTM A633
A633 is a normalized high-strength low-alloy structural steel plate. It is suited for service at low ambient temperatures of —50°F or higher where notch toughness better than expected is desired.

Mechanical Properties SA633:
Tensile:Up to & Inc 2.5”: 70 to 90 ksi Over 2.5” to 4”: 65 to 85 ksi
Yield:Up to & Inc 2.5”: 50 ksi min Over 2.5” to 4”: 46 ksi min
