ASTM A53 carbon steelis a specification for black and galvanized steel tubes covering both seamless and welded (resistance welding, furnace welding) processes, with nominal diameters ranging from NPS 1/8 "to NPS 26" (DN 6-650).
According to process and chemical properties, they are classified as Type F (furnace welded), Type E (resistance welded), and Type S (seamless), and further as Grade A and Grade B. Among them, Grade B has slightly higher carbon and manganese content and better mechanical properties than Grade A.
The A53 carbon steel pipe is mainly used for mechanical and pressure applications, and can also be used in common situations such as steam, water, gas and structural support.

Allowable variation of wall thickness:
The minimum wall thickness at any point shall not exceed 12.5% of the specified nominal wall thickness.
Allowable variation in weight per foot:
The weight variation of any length shall not exceed 10% of the specified value or be less than 3.5% of the specified value.
Note: Sizes of NPS 4 and below are weighed by batch. Dimensions above NPS 4 should be weighed separately by length.
Seamless tube (Type S) : Formed through solution rolling or extrusion, with smooth inner and outer surfaces;
Electric Resistance welded pipe (Type E) : Utilizing resistance welding technology, it has a high production efficiency;
Furnace welded pipe (Type F) : Traditional heating followed by butt welding, suitable for large-diameter pipes.
The pipe wall thickness can be customized according to ASME B36.10M standard or customer requirements, commonly Schedule 40, Schedule 80, etc.
Black steel pipe: Black pipe refers to carbon steel pipe whose surface has not undergone galvanization or other anti-corrosion measures. Its black appearance mainly comes from the oxide scale formed during manufacturing and heat treatment.
Hot-dip galvanized steel pipe: Hot-dip galvanized steel pipe refers to steel pipe produced in accordance with ASTM A53, etc. After forming, it is immersed in a molten zinc bath at approximately 450 °C to form a dense zinc coating on the surface of the pipe to improve its corrosion resistance.
Main application
ASTM A53 carbon steel pipes are widely used in: Due to their good strength, weldability and economy
Fluid transportation: It is often used for the transportation of fluids such as water, steam, petroleum and natural gas.
Structural support: It is often used in building structures such as pipe racks, scaffolding, fences, and railings.
Industrial equipment: Applied to boilers, heat exchangers, gas compressors, generator sleeves, etc.
Agricultural and municipal applications: Commonly used for farmland irrigation, urban drainage, and gas facilities, etc.
Comparison with A106 carbon steel pipe
Manufacturing process: A53 can be used to produce seamless pipes and welded pipes, while A106 can only be used to manufacture seamless steel pipes.
Chemical composition and mechanical properties: The two are similar, but A106 is usually suitable for higher temperature conditions, while A53 has a lower cost and is more widely used.
Applicable environment: A106 is mostly used for high-temperature boiler tubes. A53 mainly operates at normal temperature and low pressure.
