Seamless steel pipe prone to problems

In the process of production and processing of seamless steel pipes, due to the influence of materials, processes, equipment and other reasons, there may be some common quality problems. These problems will not only affect the performance of the steel pipe, but also affect the later processing of the steel pipe, and may seriously affect the use of the steel pipe.

Seamless steel pipe is generally prone to the following problems:

1. Excessive tolerance
Excessive tolerance means that the size of seamless steel pipe exceeds the standard range, including tolerance of wall thickness, outer diameter, inner diameter, etc. This situation will lead to post-processing or use can not meet the requirements, affecting the final performance of the product.

The cause:
Generally, the production process is not strictly controlled, and the size parameters are not strictly controlled in the process of rolling, piercing or sizing. Or because the equipment is too old and the precision is not high, it cannot meet the high-precision processing needs, resulting in the size exceeding the standard range.

2. Steel pipe cracking
The cracking of steel pipe is manifested as cracks on the surface or inside of steel pipe, which is one of the most serious quality problems of steel pipe. Once this problem occurs, the steel pipe can not be used directly and is scrapped directly. If there is a crack in the process of use, it may lead to pipeline leakage or equipment failure, which will cause serious consequences.

The main reasons are:
(1) Raw material problem: the quality of the billet material used is not up to standard, or the material distribution of the billet is not uniform.
(2) Processing problems: in the process of perforation or rolling, the force of the billet is uneven, or in the process of straightening the stress release is improper resulting in cracking.
(3) Improper heat treatment: in the process of annealing or quenching, the temperature is not controlled, and the steel pipe is cooled too fast, resulting in excessive internal stress and cracking of the material.

3. Pockmarks
The surface of the steel pipe has convex or concave small points, and the internal and external surfaces are not smooth.

The causes are generally defects on the surface of the material, incomplete pickling treatment and so on. The main performance is that the oxide skin and rust on the surface of the product are not cleaned up, and the oxidation layer is not completely removed during pickling.

4. Too much eccentricity
The main performance is uneven distribution of wall thickness of steel pipe section, resulting in eccentricity. This problem is easy to affect the strength distribution of the steel pipe, reduce the safety of use, in high temperature or high pressure environment, the steel pipe is prone to deformation or leakage and other risks.

Causes: uneven force of billet, improper adjustment of equipment and defects of raw materials in the process of perforation.

5. Warping
The main performance of warping is that the steel pipe is bent during processing. The main reason is that the stress inside the steel pipe cannot be completely eliminated in the heat treatment or the surface corrosion of the material is uneven during the pickling process, resulting in warping.

6. Straightness of the product
Steel pipes cannot maintain good straightness after processing, and special-shaped steel pipes are particularly strict in straightness requirements. Straightness is also an indirect reflection of measuring the strength of a manufacturer.

The reason is mainly because the ability of straightening equipment is insufficient or the improper use of equipment.

In the process of production and processing, there may be problems such as excessive tolerance, cracking, pitting, warping, excessive eccentricity and poor straightness. These problems will not only affect the quality of the steel pipe itself, but also have a serious impact on subsequent processing and application. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen management in raw material selection, production process control, equipment maintenance and other links to ensure that the quality of steel pipes meets the requirements of customers and application fields.
