ASTM A36 Hot rolled flat steel

A36 hot rolled flat steel is the ideal material for most processing technologies. A36 hot rolled flat steel surface is rough, the surface is bluish-gray, the edge is blunt round, the length is not accurate. A36 material is a mild steel, it has good workability, weldability and strength, suitable for construction, manufacturing and structural applications.

Flat steel

Production technology
A36 hot rolled flat steel is the use of ASTM A36 standard range of steel billet, through the heating furnace to 1200°C, to soften the billet and then heated billet into the blooming mill, rolling it into a thinner shape. After primary rolling, the steel is further rolled between multiple middle mills, reducing and adjusting the width to roll the steel to nearly flat steel dimensions, and finally passing through the finishing mill to roll the steel to the desired precise dimensions. After cooling, shearing and surface treatment, flat steel of fixed size is obtained.

Chemical composition
A36 hot rolled flat steel mainly contains the following elements: C (carbon) 0.26%max, manganese (Mn) 0.60%-0.90%, phosphorus (P)0.04%max, sulfur (S)0.05%max. These components give A36 steel excellent weldability and mechanical properties.

Mechanical property
The density is 7.8 g/cc, the ultimate tensile strength is 400 MPa, the yield strength is 315 MPa, the melting point is 1420-1460 °C, the Brinell hardness is 140, and the production method is hot rolling.

Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages: Good welding performance and processing performance, high strength, and low cost, suitable for large-scale use.
Disadvantages: The surface is rough, and further processing is required if it is used in situations with high appearance requirements. Not as strong or corrosion-resistant as alloy or stainless steel, not suitable for harsh environments.

Application scenario
Building and structure: Used for frames, beams and columns and supporting members.
Manufacturing: Used to make racks, supports, Bridges and other structural components.
Machining: Suitable for making parts and tools due to its weldability and ease of processing.

In general, A36 hot rolled flat steel is an economical and versatile material suitable for the needs of construction and general manufacturing.
