2 inch (nominal diameter approximately 50.8mm, actual outer diameter ≈ 60.3mm)
stainless steel pipes possess excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, making them highly practical industrial and decorative materials and versatile in numerous fields.
Specification and material
Dimensional parameters (taking Sch 40 as an example) :
Outer diameter (OD) : 2.375 "(≈60.3 mm)
Wall thickness: 0.154 "(≈3.91 mm)
Inner diameter (ID) : ≈2.067 "(≈52.5 mm)
Weight: Approximately 3.61 lb/ft (≈5.37 kg/m ³)
Common materials:
304/304L: The most commonly used general-purpose type, featuring excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, is suitable for the food, light chemical, and architectural decoration fields.
316/316L: It contains molybdenum and has stronger corrosion resistance to chloride ions and seawater environments. It is preferred for chemical, Marine and water supply systems.
Other materials: 321/H, 317/L, 347/H, 310S, 2205, 2507, 904L, etc.
Standard specification
ASTM A312 / ASME SA312: General Standard for Industrial Stainless steel seamless and welded pipes, covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional deviations, etc.
ASTM A554: Requirements for manufacturing accuracy and appearance quality of Welded pipes for Mechanical structures.
Other standards: EN, JIS series, as well as special specifications such as A270 (for fluid conveyance) and A358 (for chemical equipment).
Production process and type
The production processes of 2-inch stainless steel pipes mainly include seamless manufacturing and welding manufacturing.
Seamless pipe: It is formed by heating the steel billet as a whole and then piercing, extruding or rolling it. The inner and outer walls do not need to be welded, and it has a high pressure-bearing capacity.
Welded pipes: They are made by uncoiling and rolling steel strips or steel plates into tubular shapes through machines and then forming them by welding (ERW, LSAW, SSAW). The manufacturing cost of welded pipes is relatively lower than that of seamless pipes, and they can be provided in various sizes. The production time is shorter, making them suitable for large-scale production.
Handling and packaging
Surface treatment: Usually, pickling or annealing treatment is adopted to improve the surface quality of the steel pipe and reduce its internal stress.
End treatment: Usually, flat ends and inclined ends are adopted.
Packaging: Each steel pipe is packed in a PVC bag and bound with woven plastic bags, wooden cases or as per customer requirements.
Testing: eddy current/hydrostatic/ultrasonic/intergranular corrosion or as per customer requirements.
Typical application scenarios
The food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries
The surface of the sanitary grade pipe is mirror-polished and passivated, which is easy to clean and disinfect. Seamless pipes are more resistant to scaling.
Chemical Engineering and Marine Engineering
Especially the 316 material has strong resistance to chloride ion corrosion and is suitable for seawater and chemical pipelines.
Architectural decoration and public facilities
Decorative grade pipes can be brushed, mirror-finished, sandblasted or color-coated to meet the requirements of both aesthetics and weather resistance.
Industrial equipment and high-pressure pipelines
Seamless Sch 80/160 pipes can handle working conditions such as gas, steam, and high-pressure liquids.
Summary
2-inch stainless steel pipes, with their various types, rich materials and surface treatment processes, are widely used in fields such as pipeline transportation, chemical and Marine engineering, food and medicine, architectural decoration, etc.
