Carbon steel water pipe

Date:2025-04-22View:38Tags:carbon steel water pipe, carbon steel pipe, carbon steel pipe for water supply
Carbon steel water pipeis one of the various types of carbon steel pipes. By applying special coatings on the inside and outside of carbon steel pipes, it meets the corrosion resistance requirements in different environments. It is mainly applied in various scenarios such as residential and commercial water supply and drainage, fire protection systems, HVAC circulation, as well as municipal and industrial water treatment pipe networks.

Carbon steel pipes, also known as CS pipes, are made of carbon steel materials (iron alloys containing other elements and a small amount of carbon). Carbon steel pipes can be manufactured in two ways: seamless and welded. Seamless steel pipes are produced by hot rolling or cold drawing methods, which can produce pipes with high strength and good air tightness. The production of welded steel pipes first involves rolling steel plates or steel strips and then welding them using resistance welding or submerged arc welding methods.

The size and grade of the Carbon steel water pipe need to be strictly controlled to ensure that they meet the requirements of the application scenarios.
Pipe diameter range: From NPS 1/8 (DN 6) to NPS 26 (DN 650), which is common in ASTM A53; The API 5L can reach over 40 "(DN 1000).
Wall thickness: Standard Sch 40, Sch 80, Sch 160 and Extra Heavy; The thickness can be customized according to the design pressure for special occasions.
Working pressure: It is determined based on the wall thickness and material grade. Generally, Sch 40 for residential water supply can meet the common pressure requirements, while Sch 80 and heavier grades are commonly used in industrial and municipal high-pressure systems.

Surface treatment and anti-corrosion

In terms of surface treatment, it is commonly black and uncoated. It can also be hot-dip galvanized (with a galvanized layer of 220-350 g/m²), or Fusion-Bonded Epoxy coating (FBE) and three-layer polyethylene (3PE) composite coating to provide superior corrosion protection.

Application field

Carbon steel water pipes are widely used in the water supply and drainage systems of residential and commercial buildings, fire sprinkler systems, HVAC circulating water, municipal water supply and industrial circulating water systems, etc.

When using carbon steel pipes for water supply, the following points should be noted:

When installing, it is necessary to maintain a safe distance from the pipes and avoid collisions with other pipes or obstacles.
2. Regularly clean and maintain the pipelines to ensure clean water quality and normal operation of the pipelines.
3. Water supply pipes that have not been used for a long time should be drained to prevent the growth of bacteria and scale inside the pipes.
4. When welding or other processing, attention should be paid to the material and performance of the pipe to avoid excessive heating or excessive stress, which may damage the performance of the steel pipe.
5. During transportation and storage, carbon steel pipes should be protected from collision or compression with other items to prevent damage to the pipe surface.

Key points for selection

Working pressure and temperature: Select the appropriate standard and wall thickness according to the design conditions;
Medium characteristics: Consider water hardness, chemical composition and corrosiveness;
Installation method: Threaded connection is convenient for maintenance. Socket welding is suitable for high-voltage systems. Seamless and butt welding ensure reliability.
Economy and Maintenance: Weigh the initial cost against the long-term anti-corrosion maintenance cost.

Summary

Understanding the standards, materials, manufacturing processes and surface treatments of carbon steel water pipes is conducive to precise selection and efficient construction in engineering projects, ensuring the safety and economy of the pipe network system.
